The Roman Walk: Pre-Walk

Hello! I will be walking from London to Canterbury from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October, visiting museums, archives, and sites of historical interest along the way.

Before I start the walk itself, I’ll be sharing my discoveries about Roman travel, communication, people, and places. I’ll be posting fascinating stories and poems, facts and figures, and photos of artefacts.

Once the walk begins, I’ll be writing and posting about the experience of the walk itself and anything interesting I find out along the way. I’ll be writing psychogeographic type responses, as well as poems and other bits of creative writing.

You can follow the walk and the project on this site and on Twitter @dansimpsonpoet, and by following the hashtag #romanresidency. Please do tweet or email your own thoughts, responses, and questions, and I’ll try to get back to you!

This project is generously supported by the University of Kent’s School of European Culture and Languages, and I’ll be presenting material I’ve created at Canterbury Roman Museum on Friday 3 October.
